Helmets are simple and protective necessity for the head when riding when riding such transportations, such as bicycles. They prevent serious head injuries and sometimes even neck injuries. Brain injury is the most common killer in children, which usually results from not wearing a helmet when cycling. Although safety helmets have been around for ages, many people do not consider wearing a safety helmet and it is unfortunate, but injuries still occur everyday.

Helmets are really designed to protect you from head injuries that most likely affect your brain. The well-designed outer shell evenly distributes the force throughout the whole helmet by sliding the friction. The foam that is used in the helmet liner is very sturdy and firm, it takes a lot of tension and force to crush it. The helmet liner attracts the force that is created, so it doesn't affect the head. If the head is affected by the force, it can suffer greatly.

Although helmets are supposed to protect you from head injuries, there is still a possibility for sharp long objects into the ventilation openings. For occasional cyclist, I recommend you purchasing a circular-round helmet instead of the popular slanted aerodynamic helmets because they reduce rotational effect, which decreases the chance of brain injuries. Remember to always wear a safety helmet correctly, the helmet should be placed slightly in front of the head, near the forehead. The side straps should be even at both ends, just below the ears and remember to firmly buckle the chin strap for security.

Even though safety helmets protect you while riding, it does not give you the opportunity to become reckless, it means you should still be cautious of your surroundings and how you are riding. Many generations have grown up not wearing a helmet, it best for the new generation to learn to wear helmets to prevent serious head injuries at all costs. Also, it is best for them to get into the habit now, it better safe than sorry in the future. If the helmet does not fit your head or the child's head, extra padding strip are available. However, I suggest finding a size or a model that snuggly fits the head.

When wearing a safety helmet, it should be comfortable, be selective of the ventilation openings, and ask yourself how big you want them. A safety helmet should not be uncomfortable, remember adjust the straps according to your liking; however, ensure they are securely strapped. The outer shell of the safety helmet is the most critical aspect of the safety helmet, make sure there are no cracks when you purchase it. I highly recommend you not to use a safety helmet after an accident, there are scratches that weaken the effectiveness of the safety helmet.

Safety helmets are a critical when riding transportations like bicycles and rollerblading. Don't forget you can always be creative with your helmet. I suggest placing stickers as an inexpensive way to jazz up your helmet, or there are many designs out there to choose from that may suit your taste. Overall, head injuries can be prevented by wearing these helmets, don't forget to have fun either rollerblading, cycling or skateboarding, but also remember to be cautious when doing so.
