History of iPod Models
|
The first model in the iPod family was officially released on October 23, 2001. So far, the iPod has come out with a range of models which includes Shuffle, Nano, Classic and Touch, each of which has its special characteristics. For example, iPod Touch comes in a touch screen feature and iPod Nano is video-enable. Popular characteristics of all iPod models lie in the compact body, the ultra light weight, the simple interface and the scroll wheel. Furthermore, iPod models are particularly well-known for their simple and easy-to-use interface. Even young children and old people can easily learn how to use any iPod model. The simple interface and the scroll wheel have made it possible for iPod users to access the iPod main menu and to become familiar with major functions of the music player within a short period. Distinctive from general media players like Walkman, a model from the iPod series needs no cassettes or cds. The older iPod models resort to a built-in hard drive for the storage of media while the more advanced models use flash memory for the storage such as iPod Touch, Nano and Shuffle. At the beginning, a model of iPod cost as much as $400, which blocked away a significant range of potential users. Over time, to meet the increased requirements for cost-effective and rich-feature portable music players, Apple released several new series of iPod models. These new iPod models, of course, were improved with innovative designs and more useful features like PC support and color display, which are not only widely sought-after among ordinary users but affordable to these customers. The improvements quickly made iPod a brilliant star in the market of portable music players. Now items in the iPod family have remained a bestseller among all same category items in almost every country. The advertising of iPod is regarded to have made a big contribution to the success of iPod models. Over the years, we saw a number of great ads made by iPod appearing one after another. Almost every ad copy about iPod is featured by the most classic tunes playing in the background, which is not only vivid but also unbelievably innovative. Two years ago, Apple launched the multi-feature cell phone iPhone in the United States. This high-technology cell phone is actually a combination of 2 gadgets: a mobile phone and an iPod model. Soon the first iPod model with touch screen, the iPod touch, came into existence, resorting to the multi-touch graphical touch screen feature of iPhone. Besides, this model is also the first iPod model providing Internet access with the Wi-Fi wireless network. Viewed from this tendency, we see Apple is endeavoring to change the iPod from simply a music player into a PC-based multi-media player enabled with music files, Internet capacities.
