There are quite a few home remedies for heartburn a person can try. Some people are struck by it once in a while but others deal with it every day. You may not have over the counter products in your home or the simply don't work for you. They can also become expensive too, especially if you end up needing a prescription strength antacid.

Finding the right heartburn remedy for you may take some experimenting. Since many of the can be tried for a low cost you really have nothing to lose. You can even use some common items you already have at home to create a heartburn remedy. This is perfect if you want to save money or if you aren't able to get to the store and pick up something for it. This is a better option than suffering all night long from heartburn.

Here are some of the various home remedies for heartburn you can try. Heartburn is the result of too much acid building up so you want to reduce it. When you lie down at night more of it can come up the esophagus which is why most people are affected by it when they go to bed at night. Try to elevate your head up higher than the rest of your body with thick pillows. This will reduce the amount of acid that can find its way back up.

A great heartburn remedy is to pay close attention to what you eat. Many foods that contain fat and spices are going to create more acid. By avoiding them you won't have as much of it to bother you later on. Don't eat anything in the last three hours before you go to bed either. You want the digestion process for your foods to be well underway before you lie down to sleep. Even if you go watch TV after dinner you want to do so sitting up as lying down can start the flow of acid.

How much you eat is also something you need to pay close attention to. Try to eat smaller portions. Many pregnant women experience heartburn due to the increase amount of food they eat at one time. By eating more frequently but smaller portions the amount of acid there will be reduced.

Too much caffeine in your diet can be a trigger for the additional production of acid as well so consume it moderately. Bubbly drinks including soda and champagne are also known causes of heartburn.

Reducing your level of stress is a lesser known heartburn remedy. However, when you are upset and stressed the body tightens up. The abdominal region may not be able to complete the digestion like it should. As a result you will end up with heartburn more often.

If you do wake up at night, one of the home remedies for heartburn that has been around for a while should do the trick. It involves drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in it. Doing so can help you to feel relief in a short period of time.
