Hot Tub Safety

Theres nothing quite as relaxing and enjoyable as lounging in that warm water as it swirls and bubbles around you washing all your worries away. In only a short time you are revitalized and ready to go. And hot tub safety is an important part of that enjoyment.

A good start to hot tub safety is simple common sense combined with these helpful tips.

1. SanitizedNever use a hot tub unless you are certain that the water has been properly treated and is healthy and free of harmful microorganisms that could make you sick. Shock the water before using to make your sanitizer more effective against bacteria.2. Water BalanceYou water needs to have the correct pH balance otherwise your skin will become irritated. You can quickly test the pH using test strips.3. Chemical SuppliesMake sure you know and understand the chemicals you are using in your pool. Know how to safely use them and store them. Read all directions carefully. Never mix chemicals.4. Drugs and AlcoholHot water increases the effects of drugs and alcohol which could be dangerous. This includes prescription drugs so always consult your doctor. Make sure you are taking in an adequate supply of water when using the spa.5. Water Temperature104 degrees is considered a safe temperature for adults to soak and this temperature should not be exceeded. Soaking too long can raise your body temperature to dangerous levels. Never soak for more than 15 minutes. Children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions should not be exposed to temperatures higher than 95 degrees for no more than 10 minutes. Those with medical conditions such as high blood pressure or heart disease should always consult your doctor.6. ChildrenIntroduce children to a hot tub gradually so that their body can adjust to the change in temperature. It also helps reduce any fear they may have. Never leave children unattended even for a second.7. PregnancyIf you are pregnant do not use a hot tub unless you have consulted your doctor.8. Drain Outlets
