Before you can really begin your color printing you need to know exactly what it is that you’re going to be printing. This applies to the type of marketing you plan on, the style of the marketing, the thing you want to market, and the best style to use when marketing it. How do you find all of this out? You need lots of research. The point of any marketing is to appeal to the customers, and if you want to appeal to the customers you need to know how to appeal to them. This is where the right kind of research comes in. This is how you find out not only how you go about giving them something they want, but the type of package you give it to them in. Maybe brochures are what will work for them, or maybe they prefer catalogs. You might need to use bright and flashy colors or you might need some darker, more subdued tones or else they won’t even bother to take the ad seriously. I could on and on about the subtle nuances to properly appealing to people, but then, none of this matters if you aren’t doing your research. So what kind of research should you do? The three primary methods of doing mass research is with online polling, a phone call campaign, or an in person interview. Each of these three methods has certain strengths and advantages, and certain companies will benefit more depending on which method they use. Let’s take the first one. Online polling allows you to gather information from a larger pool of people than either of the other forms. Also, it allows you to do so on a very tight budget while still being able to get information from a wide audience. However, the types of questions you ask are going to need to be very simple. You can’t have people writing long essay responses and expect to be able to sort through all the information. Most online polls are going to be multiple choice or yes/no and nothing else. So while you’ll get a lot of info, it won’t be as detailed. Phone interviews give you the ability to contact a decent sized pool of people in your immediate area. It also gives you the ability to find out more detailed information than an online poll. The downside here is the extra costs of employing people to make those calls, and the potential for harm you do by annoying the people who don’t feel like talking to you. Lastly, the in person interview will give you the best level of information. You can ask several questions, and because the person being interviewed chose to do so, they’ll be more willing to give you plenty of advice. The issue with this method is the much higher time and cost it will take. Sure, you’ll get a lot more information, but you’ll have to spend the needed money to get it. These aren’t the only ways to collect information, just some of the more prominent types. No matter which method you use, be sure to weigh the pros and cons of it before you commit. You’ll have to do some good research before you start your color printing if you want it to be successful, so make sure your style of research is the best for you.
