How To Correctly Use And Ab/Back Machine

One of the great things with an ab back machine is that you can get an entire core workout in very easily, with no need for extra equipment. At first, ab back machines can seem a little peculiar to many novices, and they may appear hard to work with. All that's really needed to getting a strong back and chisled abs on these pieces of equipment is to use the proper technique and some general "how to" instructions.

Before the Ab and Back Workout

It’s important to incorporate warm-up exercises before your workout. For those of you who want to get right to it, you may think this is a waste of time, but you do not want to skip over this important step. The warm up exercises loosen up your muscles and protect you from injury.

A few good warm-up exercises to use are jump roping, running on a treadmill for a few minutes, or even brisk walking. Once the blood is flowing and the muscles are warm you'll want to stretch them out. There is no reason to go for an intense stretch at this point. Keep the stretch light.

Tips for during the workout

It's good to first consider the amount of weight you plan to use. First time users may not need any weights at all to start out, but might consider adding them as they progress in strength and learn the movements. If you do desire resistance as a first time user, however, I caution you to start out light. There is no reason to get hurt, especially your first time out.

Now, decide which body part you’re going to work first, your abs or your back. One mistake that I regularly see is that people often neglect their back in favor of their abs. And why not, who among us wouldn't kill for those amazing abs. The back is integral to most every day movements, from bending over to picking something up, to carrying something up the stairs.

It's important to balance the work you do on your abs and back. If you decide to do 3 sets of 20 reps for your abs, be sure to do the same for your back.

3 sets of fifteen to twenty reps is an excellent starting point for developing your muscles. Don't forget to keep track of the number of reps that you do. And, recored the weight you use each session because you'll see even greater improvement as you increase your weight.

That’s one of the great things about these machines. A lot to the ab machines that you might see advertised are great for a few weeks, but they don’t lend themselves well to adding weight as your progress. The resistance you'll be able to use in your future workouts will always be limited to your own body weight. Of course, this is one of those machines you can use for years to come and still get a great workout.

When should you do your workout

A regular workout routine is a good thing to get in the habit of scheduling so that your body will become accustomed to the exercise and so that you’ll achieve the best possible results. There's no need to work on your abs and back everyday. In fact, three or four times a week on your machine should do the job. Listen to your body and if it tells you it's too sore, skip the workout. Many people think more is better, but in truth rest is important in good muscle development.

As you become more accustomed to the machine, you can sneak in short workouts through out the week just to target your core muscles even more.

Maybe you already have equipment for you back and you're only looking for ab exercise equipment. In that case, I'd suggest an ab cruncher machine. These are great machines for working your whole ab muscle structure.
