Cutting your own hair is possible, whether you don't enjoy too much going to the barber's shop or you just want to do the cutting on your own. Here are some simple guidelines. First, wash your hair thoroughly. Remember that wet hair is easier to cut, so dampen your hair once in a while, during cutting. A good pair of scissors is a must. Otherwise, you will end up ripping your hair and you will not get a good looking hair cut. In the beginning, start with cutting little by little, and do not venture to cutting too much, as you may ruin your look. Also, as a beginner, it is best to start with simple designs. One idea would be to cut your hair the same length everywhere. Comb your hair from the scalp and then cut gently each strand while keeping it between the index and the middle finger. Compare each strand with the next one to obtain the same length. You can go like this until you finish with all the hair. Another good idea is to begin with a professional cut and then try to maintain it by cutting excess hair from time to time. You can do this once a month or every two months as this is the time in which the hair will get to grow, making the original haircut unrecognizable. If you notice that the cut is no longer how it was supposed to be, visit the stylist for another session. You can comb all your hair up to your front and then start cutting hair strand by strand until you reach a perfect line. Always take hair little by little, as too much hair at one time can cause the cut to become uneven. After you do then, straighten up and then take hair from the middle of the head and cut it so it becomes even with the rest. You may need to check this cut a couple of times, but you will love the result. Curls are a more serious business. In order to acquire a certain length for your cut, you will need to cut it longer, as, when it will curl, it will look shorter. Trimming must be done carefully, as curly hair is many times very thick. For the final touches, check to see if the hair is cut evenly everywhere. There is nothing more terrible than thinking that you were done only to discover later that a few longer strands get out of your hand so unfashionably. If you want bangs, use a comb to take a strand of hair from each side on the part line and comb it forwards. You will need to cut across, and maintain a straight line when doing that. For extremely short male cuts, an electric hair clipper is the right tool. Just set the blades for the wanted length and then proceed with the haircut. You will need to move the tool over your head several times and it will do the work for you. You will get to clip the hair up to the length you want. For a shaved head, lather it with shaving cream and then proceed. At first, it may seem complicated to cut your own hair. But, if you are patient and you start with simple cuts, you will be successful. In time, you will be able to choose more complicated styles. For that, you will need to expand your knowledge by reading specialized books.
