Money orders are very handy, because they are safer than checks. A money order is always prepaid, which means that it cannot bounce, and the recipient has a guarantee that they will get the money. Here is a guide on how to get a money order and how to fill it out.

Here is how to get a money order:

First, you need to know the exact amount of money that the money order will be for.The monies for the money order can be bought with a debit card, a travelers check or cash.

There are a few places from where you can buy money orders, like post offices, banks, or even grocery stores and check cashing businesses. If you want to get your money orders online, you can choose this option. In such cases, a fee will be charged and that will not be little money, so make sure that you know how much you will be required to pay for the online company to forward the money order to the payee. The least expensive fees go as little as $1.00, but other companies can charge you quite a large amount, and only knowledge can keep you safe.

After you get the money order, you will need to fill it out. An international money order will be needed, if you want to send money outside your borders and you will also need to know whether the country you are sending the check to accepts such payments.

A simple guide on how to fill out money orders

On the payee box, you will have to write down the name of the person or the company you want to send money to. The next thing that you will have to complete is the account number where the cash will be sent, along with other details that will not allow for any mistakes to get into your money order.

On the sender's box, you will complete with your name, account number and other personal details for better identification.

The purchaser's address is your address, so make sure that you fill out this field with your information. If you see a single address field, then there is where you have to put down your address.

Your signature is very important. Usually, the field for your signature is on the front of the paper and it will be marked as �Signature'. On the back, there is a similar field for the payee's signature, so avoid complete that one with your signature.

Sometimes, money orders have a �Memo' field, also called �Used for'. You will need to complete here with your account number of the company that will receive the money from you.

After you complete all the procedure, you will receive a receipt. Keep it, as you may need it if something wrong happens along the way. A carbon copy usually exists to imprint all the original info on that copy, as well. You will use this as a receipt, as it is the only way to demonstrate that you have sent the money. A tracking number is usually associated with the carbon copy, and this one can save you from a lot of trouble.
