Homemade soap is not difficult to make, if you learn some basic rules involved in its making.Basic ingredients for homemade soap include: soap coloring and soap fragrance, essential oils, vegetable oils, non virgin olive oils, lye, vinegar and distilled water. To protect your hands and eyes, use rubber gloves and safety goggles. You will also need thick towels, measuring cups, spoons, and mitre boxes.Put 12 oz. of lye and 32 oz. of softened water in a bowl and make a mixture. Try to do this in a well ventilated room.

While pouring the lye, stir constantly with a spoon.

The mixture must cool down before further usage.

Mix 24 oz. of coconut oil with 38 oz. of vegetable shortening in a pot.

After that, put 25 oz. of non virgin olive oil and the fragrance you like.

Put the mixtures to cooling down.

Use Crisco to grease the soap molds.

Take the oil and lye mixtures and combine them.

Stir in a way that will not allow for bubbles to appear.

When you pour the soap in another pot, check to see if it keeps the same shape for a little while.

In order to give your soap the desired color, mix the coloring with grains and vegetables.

The final mixture must be added to the rest.

In order to give soap a shape, pour it into molds.

Cover the molds with towels and let it rest for eighteen hours.

Remove the towels and let the molds like this for other twelve hours.

Wiggle each mold to make the soap loosen from the walls.

Then turn the molds upside down on a clean surface.

Now you can cut the soap with a knife in as many pieces as you like.

The soap made after this method will be good for use in about one month.

If you want candle coloring, you need to add it the oil mixture.

For other colors, you can use coloring crayons; this will allow for many experiments to be made.

If you want to obtain brown soap, use some cocoa powder, if you want it pink, some cayenne pepper will do. For a light green, liquid chlorophyll is recommended, for yellow, use turmeric, and paprika for a peach color. White can be obtained if you use titanium dioxide.

The proper amount of essential oil for a batch of soap is one oz.

For a great smell, add grated orange or lemon.

Rose water is recommended to obtain a good rose soap.

For a soap good for washing the face, use oatmeal as an extra.

For a soap with a gritty surface, add some cornmeal.

Dry skin can benefit for a soap in which geranium oil was added.

Tea tree oil is good for a soap designed for an acne affected skin.
