How To Make Someone Smile

It is truly simple to turn into a person who is more funny than you are already. I will first tell you why we find some things to be amusing, the way recognized scientists explain it. I am sure there are times we read things we have not known of, at those times, our brain connects the neural cells by creating a new route between the two brain cells.

This route what we call a synapse and this is an example of the way it works:
While thinking about food, if we think of, let's say, peaches our brain will make a route (the synapse which will get thicker), connecting the two neural cells that contain the data we have on food and this fruit. So, every time you think of food, you will have apples popping out in your mind as well. If you're thinking this has nothing to do with humor, you are wrong. This is the way humor works.

This process begins with you hearing a short, yet common story. Stand-up comedians call this a setup. So now, you're expected to have a certain way of thinking towards the story you've heard. What happens now is that the brain connects the setup to the punch-line you think is the best. You definitely won't be hearing the same punch-line you had in mind, but the other one, which you'll laugh at. Chances are you still don't quite understand this, so the following example should explain it better.

The Setup:
What is the most satisfying thing next to being shot at and missed?
The Punch-line:
An income tax refund.

What did you have in mind after you heard the setup? Did you want to say that it was one of the three people from the setup who was driving the car? It's really natural to think that way, and our brain is to blame. You’ve noticed that the punch line is totally different than what you have expected it to be. This is in fact the main principle of the way humor works.

A good setup is of great importance. The greatest comedians will usually tell you a setup which will make you think of a number of different possible punch-lines. The more you think your punch-line is the most fitting one, the more will the actually punch-line make you laugh. If you know the joke, you won't find it funny anymore, because you brain won't be making any new connections as you know the punch-line.

This article should prove helpful if you want to think of some new pranks. When a man tells a story that all the people thinks about in similar way, but you figure out an unexpected way to understand it. Now, if you tell this to others, it should be really funny.
