How To Repair A Faucet Cartridge
|
Repairing a cartridge simply means replacing it. In fact just about any leak you experience can usually be stopped by replacing the cartridge. 1. Start by turning off the water. Your valve should be located underneath the sink. Shower shut offs are sometimes found in an adjoining closet. If there is no individual shut offs you will need to shut your main water source off.2. Open all the taps to let the water that is in the lines drain off. Once there is no more water draining off you can begin your disassembling.3. Start by removing the handle from the faucet. Most handles will have a hidden screw that needs to be removed. Once the screw is out you can lift the handle off. You might have to wiggle it a bit to get it to slide.4. Using a pair of pliers very carefully pull the cartridge out. Some brands might use a lock nut and lock ring that you might have to remove before you can lift the cartridge out.5. Now you need to match the cartridge for replacement. You can visit your local plumbing or hardware store or keep it simple and purchase online from one of the many sites offering replacement cartridges. If you choose online you will want to have the cartridge on hand.6. Install the new cartridge.7. Reassemble the faucet.8. Turn the water back on and check for any leaking. Its a very simple process. It is always a smart idea to have at least one spare cartridge on hand. Often you can get much better pricing if you order quantities of 3 or more at one time. It also makes it much more convenient because you can pull the old one and immediately replace with a new filter. It keeps things simple. The benefits of a faucet cartridge are many and the maintenance simple. In no time youll have completed your repair. About The Author: Alyce is an author of Decorz.com.
