How To Upload and Insert a Banner Advertisement into Your Website Using the Joomla Content Management System

1. All of your swift files or banners ( swift/banner stand for the same thing ) must be uploaded to the banner folder within your Media Manager Directory. This can be achieved by clicking on the banners folder within your Media Manager Directory and using the Browse button which will enable you to browse the files on your local computer.Once the correct banner or swift file has been located just click on Start Upload.

Alternatively, you can use Core FTP ( which is free software don't forget and highly recommended ) and just upload the swift file or banner to the banners folder.

2.There are various ways to insert a banner but the most flexible way is to go to Extensions and click on Module Manager within your Joomla control panel.

3.Click on New and choose Custom HTML

4.Go to your custom output editor panel and choose insert/edit embedded media.Make sure that General and not advanced options are chosen and that flash is appearing in the drop down menu and then you must manually insert the correct url of the swift file. Here is where the problems can start. The url of your swift file will always be the following :

images/banners/nameofyourswift.swf

Do not forget to include .swf at the end of the url.As an example my swift file is called advert.swf,so the correct url is images/banners/advert.swf

5.Put in your swift file dimensions both width and height and click on insert and that's it you are finished.

6.The question of where to position the banner is dictated to by the amount of module positions that you possess within your template and can be seen by scrolling up your page within your joomla control panel and looking at the drop down menu under the heading position eg left, right, user 1,user2,user3 etc etc but this question is not covered in this tutorial.

I just feel I need to make a comment here and perhaps the people who organise this directory may take note of it.As a web designer by profession I can assure the directory staff that the best type of articles,as far as gaining knowledge of web design is concerned, are short and to the point ,and are not stuffed with gibberish which only a search engine could pick up on,but I would also like to suggest that the search engines also pick up on the gibberish because to suggest that they don't is to insult a billion dollar industry.
