How We Can Recognize Adult Dyslexia

Years ago, people did not believe that there is such thing as adult dyslexia. The condition was totally unknown, and the lack of ability to learn reading and writing, was considered to be a result of laziness, or of the fact that some children are simply slow on learning. To make amends, now we should focus on how to recognize this condition, which are the signs and symptoms, and see what can be done for people that suffer from it. There is nothing unusual to discover that there are people that reached a mature age, still suffering from it. In such cases, the condition is called adult dyslexia. If you recognize the symptoms that are showed below, then you should consider treatment.

A proper way to identify if you suffer from dyslexia is to run some tests and evaluations. These are especially designed to see of your inability to read and write is caused by adult dyslexia or not. If you suspect that you are suffering from something like this, and the tests show you that you indeed are, then you need to get yourself treated by professionals in the field.

One of adult dyslexia well known symptoms is the inability to follow direction. This is also called directional confusion. If you have trouble knowing which is right and which is left, if it is incredibly hard for you to follow directions on a map, or things like that, it may be adult dyslexia. You will also experience confusion between letters and numbers, reading others instead of the correct ones.

A second sign of adult dyslexia is the inability to spell correctly. In adults with dyslexia, it is very common to misspell even easier and shorter words, which are many times, spelled as they are heard.

Adult dyslexia does not resume only to reading and writing. Mathematics are a huge challenge for adult suffering from dyslexia. As a science, mathematics deals with numbers and conceptualizations, so, if you fail to understand simple math lessons, then it is a sign that you have this condition. For instance, a person with adult dyslexia will find it hard to count from 1 to 100 and backwards, and the confusion regarding mathematical calculations continues to those that are harder to grasp.

Difficulty with speech recognition is another sign of adult dyslexia. If it is hard for you to understand what is being said, if you have a difficult time with comprehension of most things that are passed back and forth in a conversation, then you may be affected by adult dyslexia. Failing to repeat what was said to you is a clear sign of this condition. Even short sequences of words are hard to retain.
