Have you ever seen a credit card commercial or advertisement that toted all the great rewards and benefits you could get if you used their card? You could get cash back, redeemable points, extra discounts on special purchases, frequent flyer miles, no annual fees, and a lower APR. You wonder why you don't have that credit card right now. Then you see cards that are advertised for someone with bad credit. How are they different? The difference between a card for people with good credit and a card for people with bad credit is all in the benefits. The credit card for good credit has lots of benefits that are outright visible and a card for bad credit has seemingly none. Cards for bad credit have no cash back or other rewards and usually have lots of fees. It looks much more inferior, but in a way it's not. The reason why credit cards for those with very good and excellent credit have so many great benefits is because those people have built up trust. Because they have good credit, credit card companies trust that they will pay their bills and are willing to offer high incentives to get them to apply for the card. Their hope is that they'll apply for the card, use it often for the benefits, and pay only enough so that they'll have to pay high interest fees, but still pay eventually. This is how credit card companies make their money. If the person with good credit is smart, they will take advantage of the benefits and always pay off their card balance in full, while still getting cash back, an instant discount on all their purchases. The cards for bad credit have few, if any, benefits beyond the money they're lent. They often have a high interest rate, lots of fees, and no cash back or other rewards. Also, the limit is usually very low, often as low as fifty dollars. The real benefit in these cards is that you're offered credit at all and have an opportunity to repair your credit by paying your bill on time every month. Eventually, they increase your limit as you continue to pay your bill on time. Given this chance to repair your credit, eventually you may be able to get those credit cards with great rewards. Until then, use your bad credit card and prove to creditors that you can be trusted with their money.
