How do you choose a Good Rug?
|
Floor rugs are a great choice if you have hardwood floors or another hard floor surface because they help to reduce the noise level in a room as well as providing cushioning for the floor. Most of the times, rugs and carpets make the room cozier to sit on. Of course the rugs add to the general ambience of the room and the size and shape of a floor rug can really accentuate the interior decorating style. Rugs and carpets add their own little flare to the room. So what types of rugs are available, you might be asking? There are rugs for any décor and you are really only limited by the size of your budget and your personal preference. A machine made rug is generally more affordable, because it can be made quicker and more cheaply than a hand made rug. The vast majority of rugs that are available are machine made these days. But there also hand-made rugs which are usually more expensive than the machine made rugs. Such rugs include Persian rugs, which are very detailed and expensive to purchase. Machine made rugs are generally made with a combination of natural and synthetic fibers and you can find them in only natural fibers or a combination of both. However, hand made rugs are made with natural fibers such as wool, cotton, silk, or some combination of these. Hand-made rugs require manual labor and hard work, whereas machine made rugs are made quite quickly and inexpensively. Rugs are great way of sprucing up a room for that extra flare. When you are choosing a rug based on the type of fibers, there are a few things that you need to consider. Nylon cleans easily and is a very resilient fiber. So if you are looking for a rug in a high traffic area, nylon is a good choice. Wool is considered to be a luxury rug. It is very soft and much more expensive. This may not be the best choice for a high traffic room. Olefin is a man made material that is very strong, colorfast and wears well much like wool. Polyester is known to be very soft when it is in thick piles. Acrylic is a material that is made to be much like wool but much cheaper. Another natural fiber is cotton which is soft and has good performance. Often you will find rugs that are a blend of some of the above fibers. Choose a rug for the material that it is made with, the pattern and color of the rug, the shape and how it fits into your room, and generally how you like the rug. When it comes down to it, you need to like the rug and how it appears and fits into your design style. The selection of rugs and carpets is endless, it is impossible not to find the perfect rug or carpet for your room. You may want to consider rugs for every room in your house just because they provide that extra cushioning on the floor and that cozy feeling.
