Viagra How to Avoid the Major Viagra Side Effects Since it was introduced to the market in the 1990s, Viagra has continued to increase in popularity among men suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). This is due to the fact that it is proving to be safe and effective for the vast majority of users. Erectile dysfunction is a common problem for men over the age of 40, but any man can develop ED for a variety of reasons. It is now known that ED is not caused by simple failure on the part of men, but usually involves other health issues. ED can be caused by high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries, and diabetes. It is also a by-product of heavy smoking in some men. Viagra does not treat any of these health problems, but does treat the ED that is often associated with them. It is designed to treat men of all ages. Like all medications, Viagra can cause side effects in some men who take it. It can cause headaches, facial flushing, and nausea but these are usually mild and short lasting. There have been more serious side effects reported that may be caused by Viagra. These include a sudden reduction or complete loss of hearing or vision. These are very rare, but the use of Viagra must be discontinued immediately and medical help sought. The most widely talked about serious side effect of Viagra and other ED medications is also very rare, but can be dangerous and cause permanent damage. This is the possibility of an erection lasting for more then four hours. If this occurs medical help should be obtained immediately. The question many men have about taking Viagra is how to minimize the risk of major side effects. First, is to seek the advice of a physician before taking Viagra or any other ED medication. In order to prescribe Viagra the doctor must determine that a patient is healthy enough to engage in sexual activity. It is important for men to be completely honest with the doctor about their erectile dysfunction problem and any other health issues. For example, Viagra can’t be taken by men who are taking medication for chest pains caused by angina. The combination of these medications with Viagra can cause a sudden and potentially fatal drop in blood pressure. In addition, there are certain health issues that the doctor will need to know about in order to safely determine the proper dose of Viagra. Viagra comes in tablets of 25-mg, 50-mg, and 100-mg and the higher doses may not be safe for certain men. Older men and men who have liver or kidney problems will often be started out at the lowest dose and probably limited to no more then one dose in a 48 hour period. To avoid potential major side effects men should never exceed the dose recommended by their physician. If the initial dose proves to be ineffective the physician must determine whether to increase the dosage and by how much. Viagra should never be used as a recreational drug, particularly in conjunction with illegal drugs such as cocaine or ecstasy. The way that Viagra may interact with such drugs is unknown but there have been reports of men suffering from fatal heart attacks when misusing Viagra. The recommended dosage should always be followed and the physician that originally prescribed Viagra must be consulted if any other medications are prescribed by other doctors for other health issues. Men should also be cautious about any problems that develop during sex that can be caused by the use of Viagra. If men suffer chest pains while engaging in sexual activity they should immediately cease and discontinue the use of Viagra until they can see a doctor. The same is true if there are problems with severe headaches or nausea. Men should also make sure that when they get a prescription for Viagra filled that they are getting the real Viagra. There are websites that claim to have generic versions at reduced prices but in fact, there are no approved generic versions on the market. These generic versions may not contain all of the active ingredients in Viagra and they may not be in the proper mixture. This can make them ineffective and dangerous. If men follow the instructions and take Viagra as prescribed the possibility of serious side effects is greatly reduced. Useful Link: http://www.edrugstore.md/Viagra.jsp
