It is important to be educated about diamonds before you start looking at the display cases in the jewelry store. If you go shopping armed with the proper knowledge than you will know the right questions to ask, and the key elements to look for when you are choosing your stone. Obviously, you want to get money's worth because diamonds can be quite expensive depending on what you are looking for. If you know what you are doing, you are more likely to get a great deal on a gorgeous stone for your loved one. There are four basic things to know about diamond shopping, and they are known as the Four C's. That stands for Cut, Clarity, Color, and Carat. Each of the four C's are important and the perfect diamond will combine all four of the C's in the perfect combination. For a good quality diamond, you must have knowledge of the four C's: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat. You will know exactly what questions to ask the jeweler to get what you want for your money. The first C, Cut refers to the shape of the diamond and how it has been cut. A diamond that has been cut properly will produce sparkle and fire brilliance. Different cut options are princess cut, oval, square and round. The cut of the diamond can be a largely personal choice, so look for a rock that sparkles and is the shape that you enjoy. Each cut obviously has a different price range depending on the diamond you choose. The Second C, Clarity refers to the clearness of the diamond and if it has any imperfections or not. Almost all diamonds will have some impurities or imperfections in them, and it is important to choose diamonds that have fewer imperfections or a cut in such a way that you cannot see many of them. Some diamonds also utilize the setting to hide or camouflage impurities. The third C, Color refers to the color of the stone. Diamonds come in many different colors, such as yellow, pink, white or clear. The color of the diamond is also a personal choice, but white or clear diamonds tend to be the most popular, and known as a classic looking diamond. The fourth C is the carat of the diamond which refers to the size or weight. Typically the larger the diamond is, the more expensive it is. You can find diamonds in half or quarter sizes of carats as well as full sizes. All of the four C's add up to create the perfect diamond. Researching and educating yourself on diamonds is a key when buying diamonds, you can find teach yourself from books and helpful internet sites. If you have a friend or relative that knows about diamonds, it may be very useful to bring them shopping along with you when buying the diamond. Asking questions never hurt, so don't be intimidated when it comes down to it. Look for a diamond that ranks highly in all four categories of the C's: cut, color, clarity, and carat. You will find a diamond that speaks to you. Remember, that diamonds are a symbol of love, and it is important to choose a stone that reflects your sentiments.
