How to Clean Your Jeep Soft Top

Jeep owners have two options when considering how to go about cleaning their soft top. This includes manually cleaning with a cleaning rag or using an automatic sprayer. If you decide to clean the soft top yourself in order to avoid any damage that a power sprayer may induce, you can go to your local auto parts store and check into purchasing a cleaner designed for Jeep soft tops. This cleaner is a bit gentler than a hard top cleaner, and will protect the material and coloring of the soft top, while also making it look like new. If you decide to use a power sprayer, you can either use the one provided at self cleaning car wash stations, or a home power cleaner. Both sprayers will work to the extent you place them at, always be sure to check and see if the power setting on your personalized sprayer is low enough to not do damage to the Jeep soft top, but powerful enough to get off any set in dirt. Once you decide on a method of cleaning you want to be sure to use warm water if possible to keep the soft top from reacting and shrinking. If cold water can't be avoided than it will work, but warm water is much more preferable. Once the soft top is adequately clean be sure to allow proper dry time in an open and sunlit area before adding the top back on and driving away. There is nothing worse than driving and having your soft top dripping on the inside because you didn't allow enough time to dry. You want to keep in mind that a Jeep soft top is made of a canvas material that can be ripped if you have the power cleaner on too high, or if you scrub too much into one place. Be aware of the existence of rocks and pebbles that could rip open the material during the cleaning. Whichever method you choose, make sure to be ultra careful during the cleaning, being sure to avoid doing any permanent damage to the material.
