How to Set the Orientation and Zone on Your Fastback PowisPrinter P31

Using your PowisPrinter P31 it is possibleto print high quality titles, graphics and text on your Fastbackbinding strip. However, to get the results that you want you will needto know how to use the various settings on your P31. This article willprovide you with simple instructions for setting the orientation andzone on your PowisPrinter. These important settings are extremelyimportant for getting the results that you are looking for when youprint strips using the P31.

The orientation and zone keys on thePowisPrinter help you create original and interesting Binderstriptitles. By using these keys, you can print text across, up and down, sideways, in the middle, at the bottom, at the top, in all areas of thestrip! The orientation and zone keys are located in the bottom leftcorner of the keyboard, on and above the book image.

When youare printing titles on Fastback binding strips, the zone keys and theorientation keys are extremely important. In fact, every time you go toprint a title on your binding strip you will need to choose the zone(top, middle or bottom) and the orientation of your text (landscape, stacked or portrait). In addition to these settings, you are also ableto select the font that you would like to use, the font size for yourtext and the font type style that you would like to use. You can evenadd a graphic or a logo. These settings will be dealt with in anotherarticle that discusses the menus of the P31 PowisPrinter.

Zone Keys: Placing Your Text

The zone keys are located on the spine of the book image. Theyrepresent the different "zones" of a book's spine - the top zone, middle zone, and bottom zone. When you want to put text in a certainzone, you just press the corresponding key. For example, if you wantyour text in the middle of the Binderstrip, press the Middle Zone key.Or if you want text at the top, press the Top Zone key. It's that easy. And remember, you can put text in one zone, two zones, or even allthree zones of one Binderstrip.

Orientation Keys: Setting Up the Direction of Your Text

Within each zone, you have to decide how to orient your text. That'swhere the orientation keys come in. The orientation keys are the threesmall round buttons labeled with ABCs, located above the book image. They orient the text in three different ways: Landscape, Stacked, orPortrait. If you have a lot of text to print you will probably want tochoose the Landscape mode. The stacked mode will only allow you toprint one line of text per zone. Portrait orientation will normallyonly provide room for a few characters on the edge of the spine. Ofcourse, the wider the spine of your book the more room there will befor portrait printing.

Take a few minutes and try printingsome text using different zones and orientations. You will find thatthere are some great options available to you using your PowisPrinter. You can even put a landscape title in the middle of your strip and aportrait label on the bottom of your spine. Try it for yourself andsee.
