How to make a floor vase arrangement
|
I'm usually for smaller arrangements, but this time I thought I'll go bold and picked a large Greek vase, in the standard design about 27 inches high and 46 inches at its largest area with a 4 inch mouth. What you need: Vase (design and size of your choice) Foam (for the interior lip and neck) Moss (color of your choice) Artificial vine (if you prefer) Assorted dried flowers Hot gun glue (optional) Silk Flowers (long stem and different colors to suit your room) Step 1: First you need a piece of foam to fit nice and tight into the inside lip and neck of the vase. This block needs to be thick - about 4 inches. It is meant to hold the stems in place. After making sure it fits tightly into the inside neck, use hot glue to stick in the neck. All your flower stems will pass through this. Step 2: Now we begin with the flowers. Pick an arrangement of colors and flower types that you like. The trick is how you go about inserting them into the vase. With a vase that has a neck, you might want to work with the block of foam and flowers separately and then glue the whole arrangement along with the foam onto the inside neck. This ensures that the foam doesn't slip down or that you can change the arrangement as many times as you want without worrying about damaging the foam. With basket, there is no neck and the foam rests on the bottom so you can go ahead and create the arrangement inside the basket. Step 3: continue arranging the flowers till you are satisfied. Ensure that the size of the arrangement is in proportion with the size of the vase. With a vase, keep inserting the arrangement with the foam in the vase to see if the proportions are cutting and what requires trimming. A little perspective helps, so step back at times to view your creation in the light of your room and see what needs to be changed. Step 4: Now for the final touch - once you're done with the entire arrangement, add a trailing vine or two, if you think it will look good with the flowers you've picked. For example, it will look good with yellow, orange and gold silk flowers, but a deep blue and white lilies and orchids might look better when ornamented with a deep green leaf stems instead of a trailing vine - but only if you want. Step 5: When it's all done, fill in the empty bits between flowers with moss - use glue where it needs to be secured. Voila! It's done. You have your very own flower arrangement and you've transformed a hitherto empty spot into an eye-catching attraction. About The Author: |
