Intellectual Evolution and Agnosticism

Religions did not exist during the primitive stages of mankind. It all started only with the intellectual evolution when civilizations started flourishing. Scholars like E.B. Tylor and James Frazer suggest that religions exist to help people make sense of events that could otherwise be unintelligible by relying on unseen and unknown forces. They defined religion as a systematized animism.

As the human brain began to realize and have faith, people started worshiping the systems of the society, which later created icons and symbols for the purpose, agnosticism too sprouted along with it. The dilly-dallying continued for long until the clear separation of believers and non-believers became prominent. While the believers continued to strengthen their faith, non-believers started their never-ending quest for scientific proofs of mystical happenings.

Agnosticism grew strong with the atrocities of the so called God-men, who lavished in the name of Gods. There has been a great debate on the existence of God throughout the history of mankind. Science had always tried to provide reasons for mystic happenings, and it tries to correlate a multiplicity of different approaches like psychology, mythology, dream working, astrology, numerology, poetry and music to the incomprehensible events. One good example of contemporary agnostic group is the band tool, a Grammy award winner. The band tool in its third album Lateralus propagates its views on agnosticism through its enticing music and lyrics.

Being agnostic is innate for human beings until they gain the capacity to understand what they witness. Atheists even have explanation for the miracles that happened during the period of Moses in Old Testament. However, spiritualists argue that human brain is too limited to comprehend the characteristics of God. The recent discovery of the existence of 10 dimensions by the nuclear physicists has not only surprised the humankind but it also has made it clear that the human brain cannot comprehend many a thing that is beyond its limited capacity.

A few decades ago scientists were doubtful if a fourth dimension could ever exist. Spiritualists argue that a living being in two dimensional world will find it hard to comprehend the three dimensional objects as its capacity is limited to perceive things in a two dimensional angle. For example, a sphere in the view of two dimensional world will look like a circle, and exactly this is what happens when we research the existence of God, searching with our limited knowledge in the vast universe in vain. That's why any amount of researches could not explain the existence of god in a manner that human brain can comprehend!

God is far higher and superior being and with the limited capacity it is impossible to comprehend God as he is. This is why religions have their icons and symbols that try to explain the existence and will of God. Having faith in God than being agnostic could be the better option for humankind. While researches are good, it could be done on other fields that could benefit the human kind rather than wasting energy on which we are not capable of understanding.
