You are not having a ceremony that they can attend but you want others to know about your special event.Even though announcements are usually reserved for births and graduations, some choose to use them for weddings as well. This is particularly right if the wedding ceremony is smaller and the couple can't invite everyone that they want.

The difference between announcements and invitations are commonly taken for granted. However, it is important to really think things through before sending any correspondence through the mail.
