An announcement usually requires no reply from the receiving person. I can't tell you how many times I have received invitations and announcements and I wasn't sure if a reply was in order. What makes the whole thing confusing is the wording used in the cards.
For example, there was no enclosure in a wedding announcement I received from a friend of mine who was getting married. After the wedding, she sent a note saying that she was sorry that I couldn't make it to the occasion. She didn't realize that there is a significant difference between announcements and invitations.
I sent well-wishes and a gift to the couple's home. Of course, not everyone can be asked to attend a wedding considering the costs. I just figured that they were on a tight budget and that they needed a cut-off limit. Some couples only invite very close family to these kinds of events.
The distinction between announcements and invitations may look like a no-brainer but it can get a bit puzzling. It seems as if most of us tend to take announcement products as invites. There are some easy ways to find out if you need invitations or announcements.
You need invitation products if you expect the person to attend the event or party. These items commonly contain a response card. Just place a stamp and your address on the enclosed card in order to get your response. This will help you plan your event. It helps immensely to know how many persons will attend.
Because the announcement doesn't required a response from the receiver, why do you need to send one?. This is the major difference between announcements and invitations. You are not having a ceremony that they can attend but you want others to know about your special event.Even though announcements are usually reserved for births and graduations, some choose to use them for weddings as well. This is particularly right if the wedding ceremony is smaller and the couple can't invite everyone that they want.
The difference between announcements and invitations are commonly taken for granted. However, it is important to really think things through before sending any correspondence through the mail.
