A wooden deck is no longer just one boring style. Today you have all kinds of choices and patterns that can give your deck floor a very unique style. Vertical and horizontal patterns are always popular. Which way you run the boards is entirely dependent on whether you want to make your deck look bigger or smaller. Diagonal patterns are also very popular and very easy to install. You simply angle the boards. You can cut boards at different lengths to create a very different look. The V is another popular choice which creates a v from the middle outwards. Its a little more time consuming to lie but it can look very good on the right deck. If you havent had any experience with the herringbone pattern it is very neat because it uses boards of different lengths. If you use different shades of wood its a very nice display. You can also use different woods for the deck such as cedar or redwood which are both popular choices for wood decks. You can then leave them in their natural form, apply a stain, or just a apply a water sealant. You need to remember that anything does not have a pigment in it will not give you protection from UV rays. These days we see our patio decks as an extension of our living space. We spend lots of time having family and friends gather for a terrific BBQ and some great conversation and what could be more important? That means we spend a great deal more time deciding how our decks should look. It also means we have to decide if we would like our decks to have a little privacy or we just dont care. You can quickly and easily achieve privacy by using a wood rail. A wood railing can add the perfect finish touch to your wood deck while at the same time creating a little privacy. Rather than just building a vertical rail you can get very creative using your diamond pattern or one of the many patterns you have to choose from. This is great if you have close neighbors. On the other hand if you have a great view that you dont want to impede then you might consider a Plexiglas railing. Wrought iron also looks fantastic especially with all the different patterns that you can choose from. You can choose from the base metal or several different colors. Your wood deck can be a terrific addition to your home. It can bring you great pleasure and make the perfect place for entertaining especially on those warm summer nights.
