Is It A Porsche Replica Or The Real Deal?

Your cruising down the highway when in the lane next to you appears this fabulous looking Porsche Spyder. Wow! It looks just like James Dean's. But is it a real Porsche replica or the real deal?

A few miles down the road at the local watering hole you discover that very cool Spyder is parked. When you enter the pub there's a group that's gathered to chat about this great car and the answer to your question is right there. Yes it is a replica car and wow what a fabulous job has been done!

There are actually three choices - the real deal, a replica, and a kit car. Now we all know what the real deal is but many of us make the mistake of thinking that a replica and kit are the same thing and they are not.

The real deal is always the ultimate choice. Wouldn't we all love to own a true car from this era of classics? But for many of us that's simply not an option and that's where the other two options have such terrific potential.

Although they are both duplications of the original a replica car is actually but together by the manufacturer and sold as a complete car. You pay and drive. No time wasted building, tiddling or tinkering.

A kit car can best be compared to a model. It comes completely disassembled. You get a big box of parts, some instructions, and you are going to need a whole lot of time and patience to put it all together so that you have the car you've been dying to drive.

One of the draw backs to a kit car was the engine. Many including the Porsche kit cars used a Volkswagen Beetle engine. So although it might look like the real deal it won't perform anything like it. Replicas tend to have horsepower that's closer to the original. So although it might not be the engine that the original came with it also won't be underpowered.

Kit cars took off when the price of the real classics suddenly escalated in the 1970s and people simply couldn't afford to buy them. Kit cars began popping up and they became a popular method of owning one of these cars.

The Speedster was a very popular replica and kit car and in fact today it is still available. Perfect Motion USA and Venom Cars both offer Speedster kits. Both left and right hand drive are available.

You can choose from standard or deluxe kits, rolling kits, and turnkeys which are full replicas that are ready to drive away right now. No putting together, no installations, just drive and use.

So whether you love the feel of driving a classic from the golden era or just love the idea of standing out in a crowd a Porsche replica is a great way to do just that and the great news is you can do it on a budget.
