Jacuzzi Brothers Folklore
|
A whirlpool is a tub that has an electrical pump, some plumbing, and some jets. The pump circulates the water through the plumbing and the jets have a venturi which is a vented constriction that allows air through and causes the water to circulate. With the whirlpool tub you can adjust the ratio of water to air and thus adjust the amount of motion against your body. You could even on the earliest models. Of course todays hot tub is quite impressive compared to the earlier models but nevertheless it does maintain its reputation for quality and affordability. It was back in 1968 over 35 years ago that Roy Jacuzzi invented the first fully integrated whirlpool that was totally self contained. After registering the trademark it was off to market. The Jacuzzi trademark can actually be found in the dictionary as the inventor of the whirlpool bath. The Jacuzzi Brothers first introduced their whirlpool bathtub at the California Orange County Fair. Today they have more than 250 patents around the world relating to their technically advanced pump and jet systems and of course their product design too. The Jacuzzi company actually dates back earlier than 1968. It dates to the early 1900s when the seven brothers came from Italy to California. These brothers were very bright and they made terrific advancements in the world of aviation when they were the first to invent the high wing monoplane that would carry the US postal mail and eventually passengers. It soon was flying passengers from San Francisco Bay to Yosemite National Park. It was later in the 1920s that these same brothers made great strides in the advancement of the pumps in the agriculture industry and then it was on to the whirlpool bath industry. In 1956 they used the agricultural hydraulic pump to create a portable hydrotherapy pump which was used to treat the arthritis of family members. Soon they had developed a niche market in the hospitals. The pioneer spirit remained strong in this family being passed down well into the third generation when Roy Jacuzzi invented the first whirlpool bath in 1968. He had been working in the family business since he was a young teen and he had always had an interest in designing. He had a strong feeling that consumers where becoming more involved in their own health and that fitness was becoming more important as was leisure activity. Originally his family was unsure what to think about his invention but in only a couple of short years the whirlpool tub had become an American icon for relaxation and the Jacuzzi brand was a household world. So you see the Jacuzzi Brothers began their legacy long ago. Long before anyone was concerned about relaxation. Long before anyone even knew what the word hydrotherapy meant. Thankfully this was a family with innovation and invention in their blood because today the Jacuzzi is considered a necessity not a luxury.
