Japanese Hair Straightening - Which Are The Risks?

A very popular method for straightening the hair is the so called Japanese hair straightening. The process takes around three to six hours and the cost is quite expensive. Depending on the salon where it is being made, it can cost from 300 dollars to 1500 dollars. The procedure involves the use of some chemicals. The best known are Liscio and Yuko, which are made in Japan and Bio Ionics, which is produced in the United States. Because of the hard actions taken on your hair during the process, Japanese hair straightening may not be the right thing for you. Anyhow, if you decide to go for it, be aware of salons that have cheaper prices than those quoted earlier, because the quality of the chemicals used and the skill of the hairstylists can be less which will cause damage to your hair.

After performing a Japanese hair straightening, you will need to repeat the procedure every six months, if you want to keep the same look for your hair. Any hair that grows must be straighten, too, and this will require another visit to the salon, for another session. The procedure will be even more complicated, because the hair must be straighten to the roots of the hair and it will take you the same amount of time and money to do it. On the other hand, the straighten hair cannot be made to look otherwise, because the chemicals and the procedures used in Japanese hair straightening make this impossible. Either way, if you do not want your hair to look strange, you must take these things into consideration.

Hair is fragile and too many chemical actions taking on it, like bleaching, coloring and straightening can make it even more fragile. A reputable salon will always ask you to perform a hair strand test to see if Japanese hair straightening will cause you or not damage to your hair. Your hair may tend to break and you can even start to lose hair, so these risks must be well known before deciding for a procedure like that. So the first rule is to find a salon that perform hair strand tests, so you will not find yourself losing hair overnight.

The thermal procedure can cause a lot of damage, especially on African hair. This type of hair is very curly by nature and more fragile so it tends to break during the process or it can be altered quite seriously. By using a hair relaxer especially designed for African hair, this hair can also be straighten. On the other hand, there are more and more signals coming from women that used the technique fro straightening their hair that they began to lose hair due to the actions taken during Japanese hair straightening. Many stylists consider this to be quite harmful for their clients hair so they refuse to perform it. All these signals must make you aware whether it is or it is not advisable to perform Japanese hair straightening on your hair. Actually, there are no clinical studies to show if Japanese hair straightening is good for the hair and what damage can be caused.

So, if you are still determined to have Japanese hair straightening, think first about the consequences. If you decide that the good looking hair resulting in the process worth the trouble, find a salon with reputable hairstylists that test your hair first, so the damage caused in the end is minimized.
