Jobs boards offer a range of features and below is a list of those which are most useful:
Graduate job search
This is probably the most obvious feature, but can be made more effective by the use of additional features such as the keyword search. This allows you to put in information which is relevant to you and will then search the text within job adverts. As an example, if you are a graduate, but only interested in sales jobs, you enter the word “sales"into the keyword search and only adverts relevant to you will be displayed.
Company Directory
On most jobs boards you will find a directory of users. These will be recruitment agencies and client companies specialising in a particular sector, allowing you to research both to find the most suitable, and interesting, for you. Information on prospective employers, as well as contact details and links to their websites should also be available.
News sections
Keeping up to date with developments in your industry is important,so that in an interview situation you will appear well researched. This can be achieved by registering on jobs boards to receive news updates as they are posted, which means you are not only seeing current or old news.
CV searches
You can post your CV on some jobs boards so that companies who subscribe to this service can see it. This can save a lot of time as it could mean that companies and agencies will contact you, as opposed to the other way round. Doing this,of course, means that your current employer could view your CV and realise you are looking for another job. However, you can avoid this happening as some sites allow you to select which companies cannot see your CV, like your current company, for example. Care is required here though,as theoretically it works, but not always, apparently.
.Job alerts via e-mail
With this service you are able to register your job profile which states exactly what type of job you are looking for. When a vacancy matching your profile is posted you will be alerted by e-mail,thus providing you with the opportunity to move quickly to try to secure the job.
Job alerts by text
Obviously, this is the same sort of service as e-mail alerts, but in this case they are sent to your mobile `phone. Read the site`s Terms and Conditions first as this incurs a charge, but if you don`t mind that, it is worth paying to be one of the first to hear about new vacancies which match your profile.
.
Blogs and Forums
These can be found on many jobs boards sites and, by being in touch with others in the community, you may be able to find answers to any questions you have about companies, jobs or industries.
Article Libraries
Whatever stage of your career you are at a great deal of help and information can be found on jobs boards with article libraries, enabling you to decide the direction in which you would like your career to develop.
To sum up, these days, with the use of the internet at your disposal, job searching is much easier, especially with the features that jobs boards have to offer. Always take care when using the internet though, regarding personal information, as you never know who is reading it.
Good luck.
