Keeping Your Skin Healthy

If you think about it (and do not worry if you don't because you're probably in the majority), the largest organ in the body is skin. Not only is it the largest organ, it's arguably one of the more important ones, protecting our insides from the elements.

So what happens when you begin to have problems with your skin? While some problems might be just cosmetic (acne, blotches, age spots, etc.), other skin problems can be more dangerous. When you have less than healthy skin, you are one step closer to letting bad things happen to your vital internal organs. (And that's a bad thing.)

So we know healthy skin is important (if not vital) to a long, happy life. What are some ways you can help keep your skin healthy? Good question!

While there are many ointments and creams and other treatments out there for healthy skin, one thing that helps promote healthy skin lives within the cells of your body - glutathione.

You have most likely not heard about glutathione before. Or, if you have, you might not know whether the information you have is correct or not.

Basically (and I really mean basically), glutathione is a "super antioxidant" that lives in your cells and helps prevent cell damage. While it occurs naturally in everyone's body with a healthy diet, in this high paced and hectic modern world, not a lot of us are able to eat healthy all the time.

And when we don't eat healthy, the body's natural levels of glutathione tend to drop. This leads to skin problems and the general degeneration of cells in the body.

So what can you do to combat the effects of a bad diet? While it's not a replacement for a healthy diet, it's a wise decision to increase your body's glutathione levels with a supplement. L- glutathione, a reduced form of glutathione, is what's typically used in most supplements.

While you're taking a supplement, you might want to look into one that has glutathione along with other "goodies" for healthy skin. Vitamin C and Vitamin E are both antioxidants as well, so if you can find a glutathione supplement that includes these, it's not a bad idea.

The way glutathione is different than other antioxidants like Vitamin C and Vitamin E is that it resides within the cell. It's so close to the action, it's more effective at helping defend against cells being damaged.

Keeping your skin healthy and clean is an important part of everyone's life. There are a lot of other ways to help with the battle for healthy skin, but glutathione is a heavy hitter in the war and should be in your daily arsenal.
