Your garden can suffer a lot due to moles, these little animals that really launch havoc in your backyard. The ground attacked by moles looks covered with molehills and it has many tunnels right under the surface, which can cause severe accidents to those that try to walk over them. There are other problems that moles can cause. Because of their tunnels, the crop will suffer and it will not grow as large as it was supposed to, and the weed will grow stronger. Here are a few facts about moles. They are about 8 inch high and the weigh 3-6 ounces. They are experimented tunnelers and they can dig about 18 feet of tunnel in only one hour. They are mammals and they have 2-6 off springs per year and they do not hibernate. The plant roots get damaged while the moles dig their tunnels, but they are not eaten by the little creatures. The right method to get rid of moles is to kill their source of food. As they do not eat the plants, they eat the grub worms that live in the rich soil of the garden. If you are successful in removing the grub worms, you will get rid of the moles, as well. The moles have sensitive hearing and that is why you can use an ultrasonic device to drive them away. These special devices emit sounds that resemble another moles. As the real moles will hear the high pitched sound, they will leave, because they do no occupy a territory that is already taken by their kind. Using repellents is another good idea to drive the moles away from your garden. This repellents can be sprayed on the lawn and they will act by changing the taste of the grub worms. The moles will not like the new taste and they will leave. You can also kill moles by using poison. Just insert the poison into the mole tunnels and, when they will pass by, they will get ill and die. Take the bodies of the dead moles, place them in sealed bags and throw them away. If they are eaten by domestic animals, these could die, too. Traps are good for cleaning your yard of moles. Avoid using gopher traps, and go for Nomol, Nash or scissor traps, which are suited for moles. These traps will not hurt your garden as much as the gopher traps would. Here is a home made remedy for getting rid of moles. You take one cup of Murphy's Oil Soap with a little castor oil and some cayenne pepper. Prepare a mixture from these substances and water and put the mixture into a spray. Then take the spray and use it on the areas in your garden that are frequented by moles. You can even pour the mixture directly into the tunnels. Protect your eyes while using the spray, as it can hurt your eyes.
