KitchenAid 600 - Prince of Mixers

Quality stand mixers have been the cornerstone of KitchenAid's success for the last 90 years. From the first H-5 model in 1919 to the 1936 model designed by Egmont Arens, of which todays models still bear close resemblance, the qualities that made Kitchen Aid famous are still evident in todays mixers.

The choice of many top chefs, the KitchenAid 600 is the standard bearer for stand mixers. With just this one powerful tool, you can mix almost anything, including bread dough, the nemesis of many lesser stand mixers. Luckily also, Kitchen Aid have realized that even the lowly kitchen appliance needn't be hidden away and the retro styling adds a colorful talking point to any kitchen.

When put through it's paces by the renowned America's Test Kitchen, the KitchenAid 600 came through with flying colors. It boasts a powerful 575 watt motor, a 12 pint mixing bowl and a robust all metal construction. The voluminous bowl can accommodate and mash up to 8lbs. of potatoes in one hit or mix 14 cups of ordinary flour. For the home baker, using the new dough hook will easily let you knead a double batch of dough in no time.

Incorporating a sliding 10 speed control button, the KitchenAid 600 Pro can be easily controlled to stir very slowly or whip at high speed. There is also a soft start setting which accelerates the mixer slowly so as not to send all your ingredients flying. If, like me, you have ever stepped back from your mixer after start up covered in flour and eggs, you will recognise the benefit of this.

As with all previous KitchenAid mixers, the 600 professional has a front mounted accessory connection behind a hinged metal flap. Available attachments include a citrus juicer, food slicer, meat grinder, pasta roller, pasta extruder, grain mill and more.A new wider mouthed bowl is also a blessing as amongst other benefits, it is now much easier to add ingredients to the bowl whilst the mixer is running.

The commercial style motor protection will shut off the mixer automatically when overload is sensed to protect the motor. All the internal gearing is metal for strength and reliability. Finally, the warranty on the mixer is good. It is one year parts and labor and if something should happen to the mixer during that year you simply call the support number and they will send you out a new machine and even pay the shipping to return the defective one. Not a bad warranty if you ask me.

If you also believe that your kitchen needn't be a style wasteland consider the KitchenAid 600 for your next mixer.
