Laser Cutting Machine
|
Some laser cutting systems come with enclosed cutting areas to protect eyes from the laser. One style I saw was in a flat bed manual stock feeding style. You open the cover and place the stock in position. The next step is to start the cycle and cut the part. Finally you open the cover and remove the part to send it to your deburring area. Repeat these steps until all parts are manufactured for your order. Another version of this style of laser cutting machine have conveyor belt feeding stock blanks or even rolls of sheet stock into and out of the laser cutting machine. The third version I saw was a moving table version. The table moved stock into position and the laser cut the stock. Next, the table moved another piece into position while the finished item is removed and sent to the deburring area. This type of laser cutting machine works well with sheet stock and a robot sheet feeder. The other style of laser cutting machine I found is an open cutting area style. The laser is out in open view allowing better visual sight of the cutting process and all the benefits and safety hazards that entails. Your operator will be able to see how the process is proceeding, but will need protective eyewear to save his/her eyesight from the potentially damaging laser. This style of laser cutting machine can be manually fed stock for part making. It can also be set up with a conveyor belt system or rolls of sheet stock to cut the parts out of. Laser cutting machines coupled with the now conventional computer numerically controlled cutting machines can create intricate parts with complicated internal cuts and complicated external cuts. If you have a three dimensional axis cutting head on your laser cutting machine, the complexity you can cut just increases. While there are limitations to what can be cut with a laser cutting machine, they add another dimension to any machining shop. Laser cutting machines vary in price according to what material they will be cutting. While this article covered their use in metal machining, they are widely used in other industries as well.
