Learn About The Benefits Of Fish Oil
|
Is fish oil beneficial to your health? You bet! Fish oil provides a wide range of health benefits from the brain to the heart. Still not sure? Relax; studies have proven the effectiveness of fish oil. So read on to learn about the benefits of fish oil. The benefits of fish oil are primarily found in the two Omega 3 essential fatty acids that are found in fish oil. These are docosahexaenoic acid also known as DHA and eicsapentaenoic acid also known as EPA. There are some plants like flax seed that can provide the body with Omega 3 oils but with plant sources the body has to actually convert the omegas to EPA and DHA and not all people, especially the elderly, are able to efficiently convert it. What’s so great about fish oil is that both EPA and DHA are in a natural form that you can easily absorb and assimilate without the need for any converting process within the body. There are seven major benefits to fish oil that have been documented in several studies. Fish oil helps reduce blood clots because it prevents blood platelets from sticking together and forming clots. If you are at risk of blood clotting you should increase your Omega 3 fatty acid intake. High triglycerides increase your risk of heart disease. Because fish oil lowers blood triglycerides it decreases your risk of cardiovascular disease. Just a couple of servings of fish each week can reduce your risk of heart disease by as much as 50%. Fish oils also reduce the type of inflammation that causes rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and psoriasis. Both DHA and EPA have active ingredients that reduce the body’s ability to produce these inflammatory substances. This is why Omega 3 essential fatty acids are often recommended for individuals suffering from arthritis. DHA and EPA also are excellent for lowering mild high blood pressure while at the same time reducing high cholesterol which is responsible for hardening of the arteries. If you suffer from high blood pressure that is being treated by your doctor never stop taking your medication as directed, but you can also increase the amount of fish you eat to get the added benefits. It may help reduce your blood pressure just enough so that you require less medication. Studies have also shown that those people who regular eat fish and get the required levels of DHA and EPA have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s. That’s because fish oil protects the nervous system. If you suffer from mild bouts of depression increasing your levels of DHA have been shown to eliminate mild cases of depression. If you suffer from serious depression and are under the care of your doctor never stop taking your medication. Fish oil is also an excellent source for boosting the immune system. And when the immune system is functioning correctly you reduce your risks for some diseases and cancer. Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the risks of breast cancer and prostate cancer If that’s not enough benefits to have you eating fish on a regular basis, there are more! Omega 3 fatty acids will lower your risk of developing macular degeneration, osteoporosis, and type II diabetes. There are just a couple of things you should be aware of choosing a source of fish oil. Some areas are heavy in contaminants like PCB’s and mercury so if you are buying fresh fish make sure they are not from a contaminated area. Fish is an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids and with so many types of fish to choose from, and so many different ways to prepare it you’ll never get bored. Do your part to stay healthy by eating a healthy diet and benefit from fish oil. About The Author: Aura Mirchandani is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
