Learn About Timber Decking
|
Timber decking is made from a range of beautiful woods that draw attention just based on their natural beauty. A timber deck is really not much different than a wood deck except for the size of the planks used. Its very popular in Eastern countries. Wood decks are comfortable and inviting and they are very hard to beat when it comes to portraying a warm feeling. And they are definitely more comfortable to walk on then brick, stone, or concrete. It is also a much safer surface for the young ones to play on and much better for the old ones too. There are many woods that are used including western red cedar, Malaysian Balau, Yellow Balau, and Scandinavian redwood to name just a few of the woods. Choosing a wood can be a challenging process. With timber decking becoming more mainstream a larger variety of woods are becoming available and there is a wide range of prices and quality. Sadly consumers are not being given good information and so they are often making poor purchasing decisions. Before buying do your research and make sure you get the right timbers for your area. Your timber decking should be specifically designed for decking. It needs to be pressure treated as well as sealed to repel water. Some have made the mistake of assuming railway ties are suitable when in fact they are not because the tar surface can rub off running clothing, the smell is awful in the warmer weather, and you certainly dont want your children playing on these. You should also know the difference between softwood and hardwood terms used to describe species of wood. Dont mistake it for the actual hardness of the wood because it has nothing to do with it. Hardwood trees are broadleaved trees and softwood trees are coniferous evergreens. Each category has a wide range of trees with a variety of interesting woods in a nice range of colors. As long as the wood is pressure treated you can choose any type of wood you like. Hardwoods do tend to be more expensive than softwood and they also require more work to maintain. Your timber deck will be strong and durable providing you a lifetime of enjoyment. It will stand up to the test of time and it will continue to look fantastic with just a little work. Its an affordable option to a plain wood deck. Slowly there is more of an awareness about timber decking and all it has to offer. Dont miss out on an opportunity to build a great looking deck and increase the value of your home. About The Author: Alphonso has been working in the home remodeling industry for last 5 years.
