Learn How To Lay Tile In 10 Easy Steps

Laying tile is not such a daunting task as you may think. If you follow some easy rule, you can, too, learn how to install it without any headaches. So, go ahead and do it yourself!

Here is how you can lay tile in 10 easy steps:

1. First and foremost, clean and smooth the surface on which the tiles will be laid. If you fail to do that properly, you will have to deal with instable tiling.

2. The second step is grouting. Again, this is a stage that requires patience and a lot of focus. Be sure to see that the grouting is even, and also do not prolong too much the process or you will have the nasty surprise to see that the grouting got dried before you started to lay the tile.

3. Do not use adhesive on tile corners. This will only weaken the tile in time, instead of hardening it. You will see it crack and become damaged, only because of this adhesive.

4. The adhesive is very important, especially if you lay tile in bathrooms or pools. A waterproof adhesive must be the first on your list, and do not make any compromises.

5. A good tool that you can use consists of battens. These rods of wood will help you align the tiles, so the pattern does not look uneven in the end. You will be glad that you used it in the end.

6. After you have just finish the job, it is the time to take a look at your work. Do not fail on checking the quality, as any mistakes will be harder to correct later on. If you see them and you take action in time, nothing will damage your success.

7. After laying the tiles, you need to remove all the excess grout. After it dries, it is quite a burden to get out.

8. When buying tiles for your project, make sure that you buy a little more material than you need. Any professional knows that buying extra tiles can really come in handy. Some get broken during transportation and some get broken during the work, so it is important to have some extra.

9. Take a look at the bath top. Between it and the row of tiles beneath, a sealing must be applied. Otherwise, water infiltration will damage your hard work and the tiles will fall from the wall.

10. Plan ahead when you decide to lay tile. Take the measurements of the rooms correctly, repeat them just to make sure, then make your calculations. Remember to buy a little more material than necessary, so you dont have to make another trip to the store, just for one or two tiles. Also, keep some to replace the tiles that get damaged in time.
