Leucoderma and White patches



What is Leucoderma? What are the causes for Leukoderma and it means White patches on the skin , are just cosmetic problem. Leukos means white, derma means skin, and so white skin means Leukoderma. When there is any burns, cuts & wounds, while healing some cases see a manifestation of such white patches on the skin, said to have Leukoderma. Whereas in other cases there be real such scrap and patches on the skin without having any obvious cause. Basically medically speaking, if you see the reason, the melanin pigments which gives color to our skin, gets reduced or gets inactivated in this region so we see white patch on the skin.

Leucoderma, or white skin, is the name given to a skin disease, wherein there is a gradual loss of the pigment, melanin, from the skin layers, resulting in the appearance of white patches. Though the disease does not cause any organic harm, the patches surely look ugly and upsetting. Leucoderma can affect people of any age and sex and can be seen on any kind of skin. Contrary to the popular belief, the disease is neither transmittable nor contagious and is not caused due to any germs or bad blood. If you want to know the causes and symptoms of leucoderma, the following lines would come handy.

Leucoderma is, characterized by state of white patches all over on the skin. It is also name as vitiligo. It is in fact deficiency of pigment melanin that causes whole expansion of white patches on the body. It is not really an infectious disease.

Leucoderma Symptoms may embrace loss of hair and premature graying of hair and white patches. The whiteness generally appears all over as a small stained white/pale or brown spot that later spreads in size. The spots become in fact whiter day-after-day and finally turn into milky white. There might be some general weakness and lassitude and a victim may have overall sensitivity towards cold. The patches or marks can be caused due to plenty of reasons; the most common those among them are worm infestation and/or calcium deficiencies. These patches may produce so lot of psychological stress in the victim.

Leucoderma is a rare skin disease characterized by white spots and patches. In this distressful but not infectious disease, there is a regular loss of pigment called melanin from the dermal layers that results into white patches. Leucoderma may start with a small patch but slowly and gradually spreads throughout the body. The genuine cause is still not known though several learning and studies have been conducted on the subject. Some of the apparent reason and causes are emotional stress, hereditary factors, worms, sunburns and physical illness.
