Linen Closets - You don't need to Forget them

People rarely give much thought to their linen closets, but in actuality they can be a nice part of your home décor. If you think about it, it makes sense. These closets are busy; they hold a lot of things that we use every day, and they are constantly being opened and closed. If they are in a part of the house where they can easily be seen, why not pretty them up a bit? Even if they are in a part of the house where they are not easily seen, making them look pleasant for people who might be getting into them gives you a reputation for being someone who leaves nothing out when making your home pleasant. Linen closets may be very functional, but they can be beautiful as well.

Shelving is one way that you can dress up linen closets. You can give them interesting and functional shelving that stray a bit from the norm. One idea is to take out the shelving and paint the different shelves in colors that match a lot of your linen. You don't need to paint them a solid color; sponge painting is popular and can look really nice on shelves. For blue and green linens, for example, you could do blue and green sponge painting on the shelf and along the adjoining walls of the linen closets, and then always put the corresponding colors on that shelf.

Don't be afraid to mix and match when it comes to coloring and painting the insides of your linen closets. The walls corresponding to the blue and green shelf can run into the wall corresponding to the red and black shelf; it's all a matter of pulling the look together with the linens that you put in there. One way to try this out is to get a 3D software designing program and actually design your closet on the computer, putting the shelves the way you want them and the colors where you want them.

Even the outsides of your linen closets can be decorated to fit the surrounding décor. Of course, you will probably want to be a little more subtle with the outside than you will be with the inside. Some delicately painted flowers or something whimsical is fine, as long as the closet doesn't clash with the rest of your décor. Use your imagination with your closet and you may find yourself having quite a fun time decorating this part of your home.
