In local self storage sales there is a common phrase that is used to help compare two competitors. The phrase is, apples to apples. When you hear someone say, make sure that they have the same features as our local self storage company does, you know to make sure you are comparing like items to like items. If local self storage company X is around the same unit rental price as local self storage company Q then you have to start comparing whether or not X and Q offer the same features. This is where a little homework comes into play. You must first figure out what you are looking for in a local self storage unit and then compare what is out there for you. Here are some questions you might ask yourself before you call your local self storage company. When will you need local self storage? How long will you need storage? What will you be storing? What is your largest item you will be putting into local self storage? About how many boxes do you have packed? Do you have any items that will need climate controlled storage? (Leather furniture, antique furniture, photos, electronics, etc) Is the local self storage location you are calling convenient? Do you have a way to get your items to the storage facility? What hours will you need to have access to your items? Do you feel safe leaving your items in this local self storage facility? If you can answer most of these questions before you call your local self storage facility then you will be able to provide the manager with information about your needs. Local self storage companies range from the small mom and pop type locations to major metropolitan locations in the heart of the biggest cities. Some people might conjure up stereotypes of the smaller local self storage facility as being less secure or less able to meet the needs of the self storage client. But this is not true. This just depends on how the individual local self storage company sets up their business organization. The needs of the local self storage customer will vary with the location of the self storage site. If the self storage location is in a bustling downtown, this sight might offer a small parking area off the busy street for customers. If the local self storage location is in an area of the country that has rainy weather, this sight might offer a covered loading and unloading area. So it really depends on what the local self storage market is in need of to attract more customers. Making sure that you are getting the best storage unit for your money is the important thing. Ask yourself the questions above and then make sure you are comparing like items to like items (apples to apples). One thing our company likes to tell local self storage callers is, if they do not mention a specific feature, then they probably do not have it.
