Low Cholesterol Foods: Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy

If you want to live healthier and eat healthier, a good solution is to reduce the number of foods with high cholesterol in your daily diet. Some simple rules will help you in your endeavor.

You will need to expand the places where you search for food. Here is how you should act when you are in the local grocery store. If you get closer to the outer walls of the grocery store, you will notice that they sell the healthiest foods there. Fruits and vegetables are plenty and you can buy a lot, if you want cholesterol free foods. Bananas and tomatoes are ok, but try others, such as mango, berries, peppers, kiwi, avocados and so on. Avocadoes are especially a good choice, as they are great producers of good cholesterol. Garlic, as well, can help you lower the cholesterol.

When you shop for meat, try the meat that has less fat. Skinless chicken and fish as salmon and mackerel are very healthy choices. Dairy products are another way to consume good healthy foods. But be careful: you will need to opt for dairy products that are low in fat, or for milk that is fat free. You are an egg fan and you do not like much the idea of removing them from your diet. Then, select the Egg Beaters brand, as they are free from cholesterol. Soy milk must also be on your shopping list. Another simple rule would be to stay away from any processed foods. If the food you want comes in a package, then it is time to move to an alternative, as this is not good for you.

Food labels will always tell you what you get in your food. Read them carefully and see which have no cholesterol in order to make your selection. Other ingredients are of interest as well; stay away from foods made with hydrogenated oils, as these will make your cholesterol levels rise.

If you like margarine, you also need to be picky about the brand. Some of the new brands these days can help you lower the levels of cholesterol in your blood. Butter and margarines are not so good for your heart, and plant sterols like Benecol are the right choice against them. You will find that you will need to spend more money on brand products then on generic ones, but it will be a good investment in your health. Our advice would be to let go of the margarine, and change the habit of eating breads slices with margarine with bread dipped in olive oil.

Cereals are still good in the morning, but only it they are not rich in sugar and chemicals. Oatmeal should be on your choice list. For a snack, it is wiser to eat a handful of almonds or nuts, instead of reaching for the bag of potato chips that are loaded with other nasty ingredients.

Changing your diet is an important decision. But it will help you live a longer, healthier life and you will be grateful and satisfied with your determination to do something good about your life.
