Making lanyards can be a great method to spend time pleasantly and in a productive way at the same time. You can use lanyards made by your own hands for your keys, or your cell phone or you can make an interesting gift for someone else. Lanyards can be made from various materials, but if you want to produce a reliable, yet good looking lanyard, choose a flexible plastic lace. You can find all you need in craft stores where materials are sold, including materials for making lanyards. Besides materials, you will also need stitches. Then you must get to work, but you may need to know a few things about how to braid a lanyard. Start with the simple patterns, if you try to make something complicated from the start you may get frustrated and give up altogether. Here are some ideas about how to make lanyards. The first model and the simplest one is the crown knot, also known as the round knot. Choose two strands of plastic lace and the length you intent to use for making the lanyard. You must fold the two strands together and tie them with a knot so they do not come lose. The result will be four strings tied up at one end. From here, you get to make the lanyard crown knot. First, you must spread the strings, so they are apart from each other and, as much as possible, keep them at equal distances from one another, like they are points on a circle. Choose one of the strands and make it pass across the strand that comes naturally after it, clockwise. In the same way, you must continue with the following strand, crossing one over the next one, clockwise. After you make a full circle, try to pull them as tied as you can, so the pattern looks heavy and not too flexible. Make circles after circles, until you consider you have the proper length of lanyard for your purposes. You will see how well you managed to created a crown knot lanyard. There are ways to learn how to tie up a lanyard. A good method is to use a knot made from two loops, one larger and one smaller. Because you must put the two ends together make them overlap a little. Put the lanyard you made on a flat surface so you can manipulate it easier. You can tie up every strand by itself than you can make the final knot. The next to tie up the knot is to use the strand in the middle to make the knot. Then you take each strand that remained outside and put it through the knot and so on, until you have them all tied up to the knot in the middle. The most difficult step is making the interlocking overhand knot. After you make the overhand knot, you must put the end of the strand through it so you can tie it up. Any of the methods presented above require some practice from your part. It may not work too great on the first time, but if you insist enough, making interesting lanyards will be at your fingertips.
