Make Your Own Fish Bait With These Recipes

Hear Ye Hear Ye calling all fisherman that would like to save some money on their weekend fishing budget. After all every dime saved on bait leaves you more to spend on new reels and rods. So why not make your own fish bait using these recipes?

A quick search online will provide you with literally thousands of recipes to make your own bait. But we’ll save you a little bit of search time and provide you with at least a few of our favorite choices. And an inside source tells us these are also favorite choices of the fish.

To prepare your own bait you’re going to have to find your way around the kitchen. For you modern guys this won’t be a problem, but for you guys that aren’t too familiar with the kitchen lets take a brief walk around.

The thing that has four round disks and a door on the front. That’s the stove. You’re probably going to need to get familiar with it. The burners which adjust the amount of heat, there at the top. You’ll need to turn them to make them work.

The flat surface that’s attached to the sinks. That’s the counter, you’ll need to use this space to whip up your chef’s bait recipes. The pots are the things with metal bodies and long handles, and the bowls are the big round things found in the cupboard.

Oh yes and you’ll need the cooking utensils. They look a lot like what you eat with except much larger. You’ll also need a measuring cup. That’s the cup with number written on it and a handle and a pour spout. And I’ll assume you are all familiar with the sink and how it works, if not it’s just like the one in your bathroom.

Now I must warn you in advance your gourmet fish bait isn’t going to smell nearly as good as the meals your wife prepares but don’t take it personally. It’s really not about your cooking skills but about what the fish find tasty. And remember the stronger your bait smells the better because the smell tends to fade in the water.

Dough Balls are very popular with carp but can be used for many other fish. Mix 1 cup flour, 1 cup yellow cornmeal, 3 teaspoons sugar together. Start adding water slowly until the dough becomes firm. Roll the dough into ½ inch balls. Mix a quart of water with 1 cup of molasses and pour it into a pan, put it on the stove, and bring to a boil. Once boiling drop in a handful of dough balls. Cook 3 to 4 minutes then remove place and repeat. You can place the cooked dough balls on a cookie sheet or plate.

Beer balls are also pretty popular as long as you can control yourself enough not to drink that nice cold beer. This recipes pretty darn easy too. You need a box of frosted flakes or some other type of sugar coated flakes. Pour them into a bowl and then begin to pour the beer in until they get to a consistency you can form into balls. Shape into ½ balls and go fishing.

Sauerkraut bait has resulted in some interesting catches. You’ll need a can of sauerkraut, some ketchup, flour and bread. Pour the sauerkraut into a bowl then add ketchup, mix and continue adding ketchup until mix is a nice red color. Pour 1 cup flour into the mix and stir. If consistency becomes too thick add a little water. It should be about the same constancy as spaghetti sauce. Now take your bread and roll into balls, then submerge the bread balls in your mix. Coat well, set on plate to dry, then get ready to go fishing.

Chicken liver bait is one of those not so nice smelling recipes. You’ll need sugared corn pops, 1 pound of instant grits, a package of chicken livers, and some anise extract. Blend the chicken livers in the blender to a fine mush. Add the anise and mix once more. Pour the grits into a bucket then add your mix. Consistency should be slightly thick. Add grits or water until you get a consistency that will stick to the corn balls. Dip each corn ball in the mix until completely covered. If you survive the smell of this recipe you should be rewarded with the catch of the day.

Now after reading these recipes you may decide it’s easier to spend the extra and buy your bait already to go, but remember if you choose to make your own fish bait with these recipes you’ll have all the extra money for that new Shakespeare reel you’ve been wanting.
