Making the Most of Your Smile
|
Fixing damaged teeth with porcelain crowns is quick and easy, and can get you back on track with your dental health. Rotting and missing teeth put your jaw at serious risk. In addition, they make it difficult for you to enjoy simple pleasures such as laughing or smiling with friends and family. As long as your jaw is still healthy, porcelain crowns can be used to fix your teeth and give you the beautiful, healthy smile you deserve. Porcelain crowns look and feel like your natural teeth. They cover the entire visible surface of your existing tooth adding strength, durability, and stability to your tooth. In the case of missing teeth, porcelain crowns are attached to a bridge or implant that is permanently connected to your jawbone. The Porcelain Crown Procedure Typically, you can have your new porcelain crown in two office visits. Your cosmetic dentist will first establish that your overall teeth and gums are healthy. Then your dentist will prepare your teeth by removing decay and bacteria. If you need tooth restoration, this will be done before proceeding with the porcelain crown. Once the tooth is prepared, a custom mold will be made and sent to a professional laboratory to create your new crown. In the meantime, you'll have a temporary crown until your second visit. When your crown is ready, your dentist will clean your tooth in preparation for your new crown. Together, you'll exam the new crown and ensure that the color matches the color of your existing teeth. Your crown will then be permanently attached using a special dental adhesive. Once your crown is in place, minor adjustments may be necessary to ensure that it looks and feels right. Since a mild anesthetic is used in order to attach the porcelain crown, your lips and gums will be a numb for a few hours after the procedure. Once the anesthetic wears off, you shouldn't notice any difference from your other healthy teeth. Good dental hygiene is a must for healthy teeth and gums, so be sure to brush and floss after meals and have regular dental visits in order to maintain your healthy, beautiful smile.
