Managerial Skills - Six Skills That Make For A Great Leader

A great leader cannot exist in the absence of certain qualities. He or she needs to develop real leadership skills based on these qualities in order to be able to motivate the team to reach the final purpose and to do it successfully. The mark of a good leader is always visible there, where the entire team works towards a goal, while attaining excellence and quality in their performance. We identified six managerial skills that a great leader cannot do without and they are presented as follows.

1. A keen observation sense

A great leader should always be aware of what happens with the team. Too many times, the leader's schedule is too overloaded with different chores, so observation falls second. In order to prevent this from happening, observation and regular visits to the work environment must be scheduled and completed when needed. When the leader sees how the team works, the entire work process becomes clearer with possibilities to be improved. Also, the leader's presence at the work place shows the team members that he or she cares for the outcome of their actions.

2. The ability to monitor the employees' performance

Constant communication is a must inside a team. For that, conferences must be organized on a regular basis. These occasions are also perfect for the leader to monitor the employees' performance. Assessments and evaluations must be completed regularly, so the leader always knows what the team is doing. All these come very much in handy when the leader is interested in stimulating the professional development of the employees. Monitoring can be done in groups or individual in order to get the best results. This way, the leader will be able to provide support and encouragement for each team member.

3. The capacity to apply professional development programs

The team's evaluation has an important purpose: to identify the weak points. These weaknesses are then treated and cured through the means of professional development programs.

4. Knowledge and expertise

A great leader cannot exist without knowledge and expertise. Its credibility decreases when the other team members see that their leader does not know specific details about the plan they are all working on. So, if the leader does not have the proper knowledge and expertise, then he or she must talk to experts from the concerned departments, in order to be up to date and to have an accurate general image about the project.

5. The ability to make good decisions

The ability to make good decisions is another trait of a great leader. The process of making decisions involves considering all the factors. When the leader combines his clear and firm decisions with the capacity of adaptation to new situations, the team will have trust in the outcome of these actions and in the leader.

6. The capacity to make research

Conducting and evaluating research is an important part of the leader's activity. The leader should be the first to know about all the novelties and studies in the field of business the team works in. This knowledge will guarantee the success of the project, as well as excellence in the product. This capacity also contributes to planning future actions.

These six managerial skills are very important for a great leader as they are the foundation of a successful career.
