Marine Corps around the world

There are several things that the term marine could mean. You will use this term depending on the context. The main meaning of marine is to describe a member of a special armed service division called Marine Corps. Another meaning is related to things that deal with water and navy and is tied to the above description. There are other meanings (like the name of the location in France). This article will describe the most important meanings of this term.

Different countries have different types of military. Each of these militaries has different divisions and departments. When you look inside these different departments, you will find distinct types of armed forces one of which is called Marine Corps. The members of this military branch are called marines and are considered to be one of the elide branches. In most cases the main role of marines is to carry out amphibious attacks (attacks from ships on different objects located on land) using various equipment and weapons.

Many different countries have marines as a separate military branch. To list a few, the list of these countries includes but is not limited to United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France, Spain, Japan, Italy and Norway. The exact names and specific duties differ among countries and many times include the tasks that are performed on land. Still, marines are considered one of the elite, fastest and most mobile branches on the military in these countries.

It is important to provide the few examples of different types of Marines forces around the world. For example, the United States of America has a United States Marine Corps branch. This is the largest Marines division in the word with approximately over 175000 active members. The US Marine Corps is considered a separate military branch, with other branches being Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. The US Marines usually perform many different tasks and functions that are not limited to amphibious warfare.

The United Kingdom military has the Corps of Royal Marines (or simply the Royal Marines), which is the part of England’s Rapid Deployment Force and a subdivision of British Royal Navy military branch. Many sources believe that the British Marines go through the longest basic training in the world. Please note that we talk about the basic training, not the training of specialized forces.

The Spanish military also has Marine Corps division. The actual name is the “Infanteria de Marina”. It was created in 1537 and is considered the oldest marines division in the world. The Spanish Marines are considered a part of Spanish Navy, although they are always treated as marines, not as infantry.

Another example of marines is the Marine Forces in Russian Federation. The actual translation from Russian would be the Russian Naval Infantry. This is an elite force designed to carry out various operations, not necessarily naval in nature (similar to US Marines). Russian Naval Infantry force was created in 1705 by Peter I.

Another one of the world’s Marine Corps divisions is the French Marine Corps. In actuality, the French military has two different types of Marines. The “Troupes de Marine” troops belong to the French Army and consist of Marine Infantry, Marine Artillery and Marine Armor. The “Naval Fusiliers” are a part of French Navy and are required to serve on ships and guard marine bases.
