In marketing a coupon is a ticket or document that can beexchanged for a financial discount or rebate when purchasing a product. Customarily, coupons are issued by manufacturersof consumer packaged goods or by retailers, to be used in retail storesas a part of sales promotions. They are often widelydistributed through mail, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and mobile devices such as cell phones. Internetcoupons have become popular recently, because there is no postal cost, and theprinting cost is borne by the user (who prints the coupons) rather than thebusinesses issuing them. Mobile coupons have emerged as a new and greenalternative as no printing is required whatsoever. Mobile coupons as a methodof coupon redemption are gaining in popularity as more consumers utilize theirmobile devices for uses beyond voice.

Thesecoupons are made on the computer and they look like the coupons you would usein the grocery store, only these are more valuable and I like to decorate minewith smiley faces. Picking particular times and events I fill out the couponwith a ‘surprise’ my treat. Now to take part in the surprise the coupon holdermust redeem it at the right time and place.

A perfect example is the coupons I made for a round of miniature golf weplayed only a few weeks ago. Just before bed time I placed a coupon, redeemablefor a family outing that would include pop and pizza, under the pillows of thekids. When they found them, they came running out with excitement and joy.

Kindness coupons can be redeemed for other reasons too. Like I got a freecoupon for a free hug – payable upon request, which I am hanging on for aperfect time and place of redemption. Another coupon that was given to me wasfor free dishwashing on a weeknight. Of course the emotional value of thesecoupons far exceed the actual action, but they seem to keep the family closetogether.

The coupons could be as simple as a promise written on a notepad or aselaborate as a color copy, but it really doesn’t matter. As the world doescontinue to rush on, you and your family will have the chance to be closetogether enjoying each other’s company.
