Mattress Protector
|
A mattress protector does a number of things. As the name implies, a mattress protector protects your mattress and helps add to its lifespan. It helps to protect the mattress from rubbing and wear and tear. The most protective kinds of mattress pads or mattress protectors have a waterproof layer to protect mattresses from sweat and other types of moisture. When purchasing a mattress protector for a child's bed, it is especially important to choose a mattress pad that is waterproof. Some people prefer to use two separate pieces of mattress protection for waterproofing. The combination of a plastic sheet and cloth mattress protector is a powerful mattress protector. The plastic sheet is completely impervious to moisture of any kind, whether from spills or accidents. Then the cloth mattress pad provides additional comfort and a buffer between the bottom sheet and the plastic layer. With this type of configuration, it is best to find a nice thick cloth mattress pad. Cotton makes the nicest, most breathable mattress pad material. Some mattress protectors, of course combine a plastic sheet layer with a thick mattress pad layer. Though you can find these at very reasonable prices, the cheaper ones tend to fall apart rather quickly. It's not uncommon for the cheapest mattress protectors to come apart where the plastic and cloth sections are sewn together. If you're going to use a plastic sheet or combo plastic ad cloth mattress protector, it is important to find a cloth mattress pad or mattress pad layer that is as thick as possible. If the cloth portion is not thick enough, then the plastic portion will make the bed very uncomfortable as the sleeper's body heat and sweat will begin to accumulate on the bottom fitted sheet, making for very sweaty sleeping. If you find that your mattress protector is making sleeping too hot ad sweaty, try adding additional cloth sheet layers to your bedding. Add a flat sheet or two beneath the fitted sheet and there will be many more layers that moisture can spread throughout to evaporate. This way your body heat and any sweat will dissipate and evaporate instead of clinging to you, making for a bad night's rest. Other than looking for the thickest, most cottony mattress protector, there are really no other things to look for other than general craftsmanship and stitching quality. The only other consideration is price. Honestly, a mattress protector that is one hundred percent cotton is worth a steep price compared to synthetic mattress protectors. You can find decent mattress protectors and mattress pads at nearly all general household type stores. For something nicer and especially thick, try one of the specialty bed and bath stores. Many times these retail stores will have several grades of mattress protectors and pads from which to choose. Ella Morgan is a publisher of ArticleClick.com.
