Detail Aid. The is the phrase used for a medical sales brochure used to help sell a product. It will normally contain a variety of pictures, graphs and references to clinical trials and research to help sell products. These items must go through strict regulatory processes in order to be able to be used with members of the medical profession. AV meeting. AV is the term used to describe promotional meetings and stems from the time when they were 'audio visual' meetings. Medical sales would carry a television with a video in it in order to show a promotional video and normally provide lunch while they were at at. Post graduate meeting. These are regular meetings held for Gps to gain points for continuous education. Normally they are held in the post graduate centre of a hospital and are sponsored by a medical sales rep. The medical rep will pay a fee to cover lunch and in return puts up a stand and offers free items to entice Gps to chat to them. RPC (Rely paid card) This is a marketing tool to generate access to Doctors for medical sales reps. A mailing is sent out offering an item, for example a stitch cutter, with a 'reply pay card'. All they have to do is tick the box. This is then sent to the medical sales rep who can turn up with the stitch cutter in an attempt to generate a call with it. Call rate. This is the term used to describe the number of a particular type of customers seen per day. Typical call rates for Gps are between 2 and 5 per day depending on the area. Most medical sales reps will have a target for call rates on an ongoing basis. NSM (national sales manager) This acronym applied to the Head of Sales for medical sales teams. An NSM may be managing managers who manager reps. Speaker meetings. This is the term used to describes meetings set of for a key customer to present to other customers in order to try and promote your product. In particular if you have a consultant who uses and supports your product they may be willing to speak about it with other doctors. KOL's (Key opinion Leaders) the term given to influential senior customers who support your cause. Not only are they likely to be a user of you products but will also be used to try to influence others to do them same. The list of jargon in medical sales is endless but these are just a few of the most common elements of lingo you may come across.
