If you're planning a trip to Florida soon, Miami should definitely be on your itinerary. In addition to the wonderful balmy weather, you will also find beautiful stretches of beaches to enjoy and a variety of cultural attractions and entertainment venues to keep you interested and occupied during your visit.
In Miami you will find a wide variety of restaurants to perk up your taste buds. If you happen to be the adventurous type, be sure to visit any one of the wonderful ethnic restaurants that can be located all of the city. You'll be sure to enjoy a meal you won't soon forget.
With the presence of so many diverse cultures present in Miami, you may well find that one of the most interesting activities to undertake while visiting the city is to simply soak up some of the local culture. Toward that end, be sure to visit Little Havana while you're in town; a section of Miami that is well known for its strong Cuban influence. Here you can enjoy Cuban food, music and even street festivals with a distinct Cuban flair.
The Everglades National Park is also located nearby and is certainly a treat for those who like to explore nature. This is the perfect opportunity to take an ecological tour aboard an airboat. Just be sure to bring plenty of mosquito spray along with you.
For the animal lovers, no visit to Miami would be complete without stops at the Miami Metro Zoo, Parrot Jungle Island, Monkey Jungle and the Miami Seaquarium.
The Miami area is also well known for its lush and tropical vegetation. Some of the most popular tourist attractions in the area include the Fairchild Tropical Gardens; where you'll find an extensive collection of tropical plants.
Miami is also home to numerous museums and art galleries including the Miami Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Historical Museum of South Florida.
Sports fans will enjoy the wide range of professional sports teams that make their home in the Miami area including the Miami Dolphins NFL team, the Florida Panthers NHL team, the Florida Marlins baseball team and the Miami Heat basketball team.
Also, don't forget the numerous water activities that abound in the Miami area. The Biscayne National Park is perfect to try scuba diving.
When planning a visit to the Miami area, you should be keenly aware of the climate. The climate in Miami most closely resembles a subtropic climate with intense temperatures and high amounts of humidity. Therefore, it is extremely important that you bring along plenty of sunblock and a good pair of sunglasses with quality UV protection. One of the most popular activities in Miami is take advantage of the beautiful stretches of beaches and touring the Boardwalk, but you won't have much fun with a sunburn, so be sure to use good sense when it comes to protection from the sun.
While the weather in Miami is mild most of the year, the hurricane season can prove to be somewhat unpredictable, dumping large amounts of rain on Miami at the very least. If you plan to travel to Miami during hurricane season, take the time to stay on top of the weather and be aware of any changing weather patterns. In the event of an approaching hurricane that appears as though it may be targeting Miami, you may be required to evacuate, so plan for this when making your travel arrangements.
