Wash Potatoes Thoroughly
Make sure to wash the potatoes thoroughly and to dry them before putting them in the microwave. A dirty microwave baked potato is not a very good taste. It doesn't take long to wash and dry them before cooking them. It is also a very healthy thing to do because you don't know what might have been on the potato before you wash and dry it.
Make Sure You Poke Some Holes
Take the time to poke some holes in your microwave baked potato. This will allow the steam in the microwave baked potato to vent and will aid in the cooking process by allowing the potato to cook faster so you can enjoy your potato sooner. Poking holes in your microwave potato will also help with the cooling process once it is finished cooking.
Rub with a Bit of Oil
Rubbing oil on your microwave baked potato will keep the potato skin from drying out and give your microwave baked potato a little more flavor to. You can use corn, vegetable, or peanut oil. It all depends on what you want to use. However you don't have to rub oil on the potato but it is a good idea.
Cook for 5-8 Minutes
Put your microwave baked potato on a plate and cover it with a paper towel. Cook the potato for five to eight minutes or until your potato is cooked all the way through and soft. If you don't cook the potato long enough it will be very hard. By the same token don't cook the potato to long and remember cooking times vary from one microwave to another.
Always Let the Potato Stand Before Eating
After cooking your microwave baked potato make sure you let it stand for a few minutes. If it has been cooked long enough it will be very hot and can burn your tongue and mouth. Once it has been cooled long enough to handle then you can dress your microwave baked potato the way you want. You can add on sour cream, or bacon bits, or both for a great taste.
