The black mold thrives in places that are humid, with very little light, and basements are the perfect environment. This could affect the health of the people living in the house, that can end up developing serious allergies. Such things happen when the person that is more sensitive walks into an area that is affected by black mold. In the basements, the circulation of air is very little and the spores can be inhaled and install in the lungs and the nasal cavities.
Mold related ailments have certain symptoms, like headaches, watery eyes, coughing, a scratchy throat and they can even cause bleeding in the lungs. Older people and children are often the victims, as their immune system is more fragile. When you notice that you have a scratchy throat or someone else in your family has a scratchy throat, then you will know that black mold is somewhere in the house.
You will have to get rid of the black mold in your basement if you want to eliminate the problem. One way is to ensure that is enough air circulation in your basement, as this will purify the air of the spores. Some heppa filters can help you during the process. Better air circulation will also ensure that the humidity level will drop; without these two factors, black mold will not be able to grow as strong as before.
Basements are not the only places where black mold can infiltrate. Water leaks getting into your carpeting can lead to the formation of the perfect environment for mold. You can replace the carpeting or you can simply hire some professionals to clean your carpeting. When you want to remove the carpeting from an area that was affected by black mold, some cautions are necessary. For instance, the wooden tack strips can be the ones carrying the mildew and the mold. The easiest solution is to use a spray that is designed as an organic mold cleaner. But this will not kill the mold entirely and, if you want to keep your house mold free, then you will have to repeat the process all the time. But, for permanent removal, you will need to try another products. Still, you should know that the nasty smell will not disappear so easily. For that, you can hire a mold inspector or you can try to alleviate the smell using special sprays.
Check your water pipes to see if you have a problem, because, if this is the cause, then you will need to invest in repairs, or, otherwise, the mildew problem will get back and you will take all the removal process all over again.
