There are universal stands that you can buy that are supposed to work with any type of miter saw. This includes any brand, and any size miter saw. These stands will almost always have adjustable fences and adjustable work supports, and many are collapsible so that they can be transported more conveniently. Many people who use miter saws regularly in their business, and who travel from work site to work site, will use adjustable miter stands, since they may use several different types and sizes of miter saws. If you only use your miter saw in your home workshop, however, you may only have one, and therefore may not need to buy what is usually a more expensive universal stand. If you do have more than one miter saw, then a universal stand may be right for you, even if you won't be moving your miter saws from place to place. Or, you may just want the convenience of a universal stand so that you can have one that will adjust to any future woodworking projects that may involve transporting one or more miter saws. If you will be using an adjustable stand, be sure that you buy one that is made out of quality materials, and one that has been made according to high quality standards. You want to make sure that the universal stand that you buy has a good manufacturers warranty, and also you want to know that there will be some businesses close by that can repair your type of stand if need be. Many universal stands even come with wheels so that they can be easily moved even when the miter saw is connected. This can be a valuable asset in a stand when you will need to be moving your miter saw and stand to different locations, even if it is just around your own house or yard. If you think that you will not need an adjustable miter stand, than the manufacturer of your miter saw probably sells stands that work with the type of saw that you own. You will want to contact the manufacturer of your miter saw and ask what type of stand you will need for your saw. You don't, however, need to buy one directly from the manufacturer right away. To save money, you may be able to buy the stand that you need from a store that sells pre-owned tools, from an Internet auction site, or you could even visit estate sales where you know that they will be selling power tools and woodworking machinery. Just be sure that you know the specifications of the stand that you will need, so that if you find a good used stand you will be able to tell if it will be the right one for you. If you would feel better purchasing a new stand, then you can still look around for the best price. Many hardware or home improvement stores carry several different brands and types of stands, and you may be able to find one on sale, or just less expensive than if your ordered one directly from the manufacturer. It pays to shop around when you are buying this type of equipment, though you always want to make sure that you make quality your first priority.
